Technique Tuesday: Stay Balanced and Punch Better
If you feel off-balance when you punch, everything becomes harder — your power drops, your defence disappears, and you become easier to counter.
Balance is one of the most overlooked fundamentals in boxing, but it’s what allows everything else to work.
If you’re just getting started, this is something we focus on heavily in our Beginner Boxing Classes in Toronto, where proper stance and movement are built from day one.
Why Balance Matters
When you’re balanced, you can:
- Punch with control
- Defend immediately after
- Move without hesitation
- Stay composed under pressure
When you’re off-balance, you’re guessing.
Key Habits to Stay Balanced
1. Don’t Overreach
If you’re falling forward, you’re out of position.
2. Keep Your Feet Under You
Your base should always support your movement.
3. Punch Within Your Range
Step first, then punch.
4. Reset After Every Combination
Don’t stay extended.
