Technique Tuesday: Stop Dropping Your Hands

One of the fastest ways to get hit in boxing is simple — dropping your hands.

This is something we constantly correct in both our classes and Boxing for Fitness in Toronto sessions, where fatigue often exposes bad habits.

Why This Happens

  • Fatigue
  • Bad habits
  • Lack of awareness
  • Overconfidence

How to Fix It

1. Bring Every Punch Back to Guard
No exceptions.

2. Keep Your Elbows Close
Protect your body as well.

3. Stay Mentally Engaged
Don’t relax too early.

4. Expect a Counter
Always assume something is coming back.

Training Drill

Heavy bag:
Throw combinations → pause → check your guard

Make it automatic.

Final Thoughts

Your hands protect you. Keeping them up is one of the simplest ways to improve your defence.
